Description

1. Adult birds are covered with feathers.
2. Birds have feathers, beasts have fur.
3. He plucked one feather from the bird’s wing.
4. He stuck a feather in his hair as an ornament.

The most general term should be chosen. If no single term for all kinds of feathers exists, the reasonable choice is ‘quill, flight feather of a bird’. Not to be confused with ‘fluff’, ‘down’, etc. The word should be applicable to different bird species. (Kassian et al. 2010)
