1. I cut myself with the sharp knife.
2. He cut the rope in half.

Cutting wood is problematic as the following aspects of it may be different: crossing acrss/with the grain, mode of cutting: chopping, sawing, etc therefore avoid . Avoid eliciting the noun 'cut'.
