Comment: Blažek gives also óμμα and οφθαλμός 'id', with same etymology. The form μάτι < diminutive ομμάτι(ον) from regular procope of initial unstressed vowels. μάτι is the basic term; όμμα and οφθαλμός are archaising/katharevousa usage.
