Comment: Verbal root occurs only 5x in Rg Veda, two instances of which involve prefixation (e.g., with ni-, giving the meaning 'burn down'). Grassmann (1873:267) mentions the connection with the meaning 'shine', but notes that this meaning is no longer in use by the earliest period of attestation. However, dah- occurs far more frequently.
