Language:Hittite
Meaning:black
Source form:hanzanas
Phonological form:
Gloss:
Notes:According to Puhvel this lexeme has been "wrongly interpreted as a colour adjective [...] specifically black" (1932: 112, vol. 5). He takes it to mean 'strand, yard, thread, web' matching the Akk. It is a near synonym of kapina- 'thread, yarn'. It is thus not related to Greek or Coptic as claimed by others (in his opinion).
