Comment: From Proto-Celtic *salano- 'salt', cf. PIE *seh₂1- 'salt'. gen.sg. *sh₂1-os (IEW 878). The Irish and British forms cannot derived from a single proto-form. Old Irish salann points to a PIE derived stem *sh₂l-Hno- > PCelt. salano-, while the British words have another suffix, i.e. Proto-Celtic *saleno- < *sh₂l-eno-.
