Notes
Citation: Beekes, Robert. 2010. Etymological Dictionary of Greek. Leiden: Brill. Pages: View Ancient Greek ψυχρός 'cold' (adj.) and ψῦχος 'cold, frost' (n.) form a Caland System within Greek, but it does not appear to have an Indo-European etymology. Older suggestions have attempted to derive 'cold, chilly' < 'blowing wind'?, comp. 'blow' in /cognate/190/ but Beekes rejects this connection (s.v. ψυχή, ψυχρός.).
