Citation: Martirosyan, Hrach. 2010. Etymological Dictionary of the Armenian Inherited Lexicon. ... Pages: View Martirosyan connects Greek ξηρός with Armenian čʻir 'dried fruit' čʻor (o-stem) 'dry'. This proposed etymology is usually doubted because one normally expects Armenian cʻ from PIE *ks, *sk, but Martirosyan argues (2.1.12) that čʻ- is the correct reflex of *ks- in initial position. The etymology is possible, but this word is the only example that Martirosyan cites in favour of this sound law.
Citation: Clackson, James. 1994. The Linguistic Relationship Between Armenian and Greek. ... Pages: 182 View Clackson (among others) regards the connection between Greek ξηρός and Armenian չոր čʻor as doubtful.
